Folding camping trailers are relatively inexpensive, yet they offer a pair of double beds, and the dinette also converts into a double bed in most models. They feature minimal cooking facilities, with a two- or three-burner stove, a sink and an icebox or optional small refrigerator. More expensive units can be equipped with a furnace, a toilet, a shower and other amenities similar to self-contained travel trailers.
A few folding trailers utilize hard side walls. The living area is quite pleasant, with an open and spacious feeling because of the many large vinyl windows in the canvas sides. Setup requires 10 to 20 minutes.
Folding camping trailers generally store easily, and can be towed with just about any size car, truck or sport-utility vehicle. Hooked to a four-wheel-drive vehicle, these trailers make excellent back-country RVs. Their primary use, however, is by families who want the feeling of a tent along with the convenience of camping "off the ground."
