Winnebago Industries is a leading U.S. manufacturer of recreation vehicles based in Forest City, Iowa. The company got its start in 1958, when businessman John K. Hanson and others convinced a California company to open a travel trailer factory in the small northern Iowa town. In 1960 the name was changed to Winnebago Industries after being purchased by five Forest City residents, with Hanson as president.
Focused on quality, Winnebago Industries manufactured furniture and other components designed specifically for its travel trailers, later expanding when the first motorhome rolled off the Company’s assembly lines in 1966. Growth continued through the 1970s and included the move to a new and expanded manufacturing facility and the introduction of the Itasca motorhome line in 1975. By 1986 the Company had produced 200,000 motorhomes.
In 2008 the Company celebrated its 50th anniversary and the Era Class B motorhome was introduced. Two years later, in 2010, Winnebago Industries reentered the towable market with its purchase of SunnyBrook RV.
Among the Company’s top brands are the Class A Winnebago Tour and Class C Winnebago View, the Class A Itasca Ellipse and Itasca Sunstar, and the Class B Era motorhome. Its Winnebago and SunnyBrook towable lines are manufactured in Middlebury, Ind., and provide the same quality construction and innovative design as its legendary motorhomes.
